Gotta Keep Reading!

We have recently revisited the importance of reading stamina to our development and success as readers.  Stamina refers to our ability to read well, for an extended period of time and, just like the development of any skill in life, stamina requires effort and practice!  As they say, "Rome wasn't built in a day!" and neither is a child's ability to read for lengthy periods, successfully.

How can this be helped?  The answer is simple...READ!!!  Much like an athlete preparing for a marathon, it requires much effort and training.  You cannot run only short sprints and expect to finish a marathon successfully, just as you cannot read for brief spurts of time and expect to achieve success in a more rigorous reading environment.

We are aware that reading is a crucial life skill; without the ability to read, achieving success in life will be difficult.  As a class we are making a promise that we will do our part in building our own reading stamina!  We will choose books of interest that are a "good fit" and we will read for extended periods of time, slowly increasing that amount.  This is less an assignment and more an opportunity...an opportunity to push ourselves, achieve a goal, and grow as readers at the same time!  We "Gotta Keep Reading!"
