Coming Soon: Book Club Commercials

We have completed our book club books and the verdicts are in...we loved them!  The biggest complaint from this round of book clubs was that "the books were so good, it was hard not to read ahead!"  That's one complaint I am happy to hear!

Now, we are going to share our enthusiasm for our books with everyone!  Today we began planning our "Book Commercials."  Students are deciding what will engage the audience and motivate them to read their book club book.  As the planning commenced, students could be heard squealing with excitement for their planned commercial.  Props or no props?  Quotes from the book?  Cliffhanger statements?  Foreshadowing?  What techniques will the students use to persuade the audience?!?  Check back in the near future to view our commercials and learn about some awesome books!

Book BINGO Bonanza!!!

B13...I have that!
Prizes!!!
To celebrate those students meeting their Readers to Leaders goal for the second nine weeks, Mrs. Phillips hosted a BINGO party in the dining room today!  Students were eager to receive their BINGO card and begin the competition/festivities!  Prizes up for grabs included books, toys, pencils, erasers, and notepads, to name just a few.  Children sat on the edge of their seats, waiting with bated breath, as the BINGO wheel turned and the next combination was called.

Just one more!!!
Eventually, shrieks of joy a could be heard as students with winning cards dashed to the front of the room to confirm their victory and claim their prize.  Shouts of support for winning classmates echoed through the dining room as joyous readers selected their reward and headed back to their seats for another round of fun!

Our prizes are cute!

We want to congratulate everyone who participated this morning, on their efforts as readers and hope to see them, along with some new faces, at the next Readers to Leaders celebration!

Being a reader is fun!
Interesting stories and characters!
New worlds and adventures!
Growing my knowledge!
Outstanding job, keep it up!

More books!
We feel lucky!

This card is a winner!

We Won!!!
We Read!!!

Savvy!

What do you think of our latest read aloud, Savvy?  I can't wait to see what happens to Mibs and her friends on their quest to save Poppa!  If you were a member of the Beaumont family, what would you want your "savvy" to be and why?

While you're here, check out this brief, teaser for the companion to Savvy...Scumble!

Book Clubs...Take Two!

We have begun our second round of book clubs and are off to a great start!  So many friends have become voracious readers...it's exciting to watch!  Our meetings will be more frequent this time around (by popular demand) so it will be especially important to refer to our meeting schedule to be prepared.  As you are reading at home, preparing questions or comments to discuss with you group, keep in mind the rubric your peers will use to assess you at the conclusion of this round!

It's Valentine Time!

Roses are red.
Violets are blue.
Today say to a friend,
"I appreciate you!"

Cards have been opened,
Ice cream devoured.
Now sit back and smile
'Cuz with love you've been showered!

We work hard each day,
We know learning is great!
But it's also important
That we CELEBRATE!
